The sports car is a product of collaboration between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing to develop a track-oriented car entirely usable and enjoyable as a road car, conceived by Adrian Newey, Dr Andy Palmer, Christian Horner and Simon Spoule. The original codename was Nebula, an acronym for Newey, Red Bull and Aston Martin. The name AM-RB 001 was chosen as the final codename, and was decided since Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing had collaborated all throughout the project. AM stands for Aston Martin, and RB stands for Red Bull. 001 may be a possible reference to it being the first production car the two have collaborated on. The Valkyrie claimed the production car lap record at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit in 2024 with a staggering time of 1:56.42 at the helm of Aston Works driver Darren Turner, a time that was over 10 seconds faster than the previous production car record and an even more staggering 2 seconds quicker than the current GT3 series lap record. Turner added after the session “The acceleration and top speed is way beyond anything that I’ve raced at Le Mans. With active aero, and the car’s ability to optimise downforce as you accelerate, the speed just keeps climbing… The car performed brilliantly. I’m not sure I had anything more to give, but maybe on a day that was kinder with the conditions we could find a few more tenths if not more. EXTERIOR Inspired by the talents of some of the very best design and engineering teams across the globe, Valkyrie and it’s quest for ultimate performance was sure to draw similarities with modern day F1 and LMP machinery – particularly given the fact that the car will now appear at Le Mans in 2025. The Xenon grey paintwork looks fantastic alongside the exposed carbon fibre and Red motif throughout; it’s appearance ready for the grid at Spa or Silverstone. The design has been refined over time to create the ultimate expression between form and function. Drawing incredible amounts of air beneath the car to feed the rear diffuser, venturi tunnels are the key to generating extraordinary levels of downforce while ensuring the bodywork remains clear of additional aerodynamics that would disrupt the purity of the styling. Renowned prototype specialists – Multimatic – provide the carbon mono cell on which the car is based upon having also been heavily involved in the One 77 and Vulcan projects. INTERIOR The cabin space is the ultimate definition of race car for the road. Unashamedly adopting an F1-style seating position, the driver has his feet raised to meet the pedals with the single piece carbon seats supplying padding solely to the driver’s contact points. With this example there are optional ‘squab cushions’ that are stored neatly in a flight case of their own. Six point harnesses appear to be a bit of a necessity here! The dash and information supplied to the driver takes the form of a triple-screen layout. The two perimeter screens act as mirrors; relaying images from cameras on the front wing. Along with the infotainment screen, the driver also gets a display within the steering wheel that replaces a traditional instrument binnacle. ENGINE & TRANSMISSION Developed by Cosworth in close collaboration with Valkyrie’s chief designer, Red Bull CTO Adrian Newey, this 6.5-litre V12 boasts the highest specific power of any normally aspirated production road engine in the world – 1,000bhp at 11,100rpm. A mild hybrid system, developed in conjunction with Milton Keynes-based Integral Powertrain, adds a further 160hp – helping to refine the calibration of the drivetrain. The Valkyrie is the first road car to use the engine as the only link to join the front and back of the car together, without any additional subframe, as such saving significant weight and optimising performance. WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES The £40k option satin black wheels are constructed out of lightweight magnesium alloy with anodised aluminium centre-lock wheel nuts to reduce mass. Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres supply the contact patch – tasked with taking care of the performance available. The incredible braking system is developed by industry leaders – Alcon – with carbon fibre reinforced carbon (CFRC) ventilated brake discs supplied by Surface Transforms.
