The final chapter in an already cult-status trilogy, this creation does not seek to reflect light: it absorbs it in order to reinvent it. After the raw material of the Carbon CTP in the “Eagle” and the mineral clarity of the UR-230 ‘Polaris’ in white ceramic, the “Black Star” closes the 230 Collection on a sidereal note, like a gravitational singularity where shadows reveal tiny flashes of light. Welcome to the dark side of URWERK. A caliber protected like an atomic heart The UR-230 “Black Star” stands out with its radical architecture. At its heart is the UR-7.30 caliber, sealed in a hermetic titanium container designed like a mechanical safe. Around this protected core, URWERK has designed a hybrid case combining: -A laminated composite ceramic middle case, -A black DLC titanium back, -A technical, precise and sharp aesthetic, dear to Felix Baumgartner, master watchmaker and co-founder of the brand. “Ceramic is hard, shiny, sensual… but incredibly fragile,” he explains. “I didn’t want to give up on this material. So we had to create a new path.” URWERK has developed an exclusive composite ceramic, composed of alternating layers of braided ceramic, carbon fiber, and fiberglass veils. Once machined, this material reveals a black texture illuminated by sparkling dots: a lively, vibrant black, where light seems to breathe beneath the surface. -An aesthetic born from interstellar space For Martin Frei, artistic director and co-founder, the “Black Star” is the cosmic counterpart to the ‘Polaris’: “The Polaris evoked the brightness of the star. The Black Star belongs to interstellar space. This black breathes. It allows light to emerge in a setting of shadow.” In astrophysics, a Black Star is a star in gravitational collapse, a liminal state where light almost disappears, but not quite—suspended on the border between being and nothingness. The UR-230 “Black Star” embodies this duality: a dense, animated black that does not deny light but reveals it by draping it in darkness.
