DESCRIPTION The Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta As its name suggests, the LaFerrari is the definitive Ferrari of its era and the definitive limited-edition super sports car of its time. It joins the legendary family tree of classics such as the 288 GTO, F40, F50 and Enzo and was the most powerful and fastest Ferrari road car ever made. As with many of the greatest Ferraris, the LaFerrari is strictly limited in number. Only 210 Aperta versions with an open top were built. The LaFerrari was the first production car from Maranello with an electric hybrid drive. The KERS system (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) contributes to a seamless supply of electrical energy to complement the considerable power of the V12 engine. Like so many Ferrari technologies, it was borrowed from Formula 1 and first utilized by Scuderia Ferrari in the 2009 season. The beating heart of the LaFerrari is the most powerful naturally aspirated engine in Ferrari's history to date: the 6.3-litre V12 engine generated a powerful 800 hp at 9000 rpm. The red line is at a stratospheric 9250 rpm. The additional 163 hp electric motor worked in tandem with the V12 engine to boost total output to an incredible 963 hp. The LaFerrari's electric motor supplements the torque. The overall design is hailed as one of the greatest powertrains in Ferrari history, combining a glorious, high-revving V12 engine with an electric motor for instant throttle response and a seamless improvement in overall performance. Unlike some hybrids, the response is linear and natural. The high-tech innovation didn't end with the powertrain. The LaFerrari also used a sophisticated, lightweight carbon fiber chassis and featured advanced aerodynamics. Its active aerodynamics included flaps on the front and rear diffusers, a baffle at the front of the underbody and the active rear wing. The result is greater downforce for improved cornering and braking, while minimizing drag. There were also innovations in the cabin. The LaFerrari was the first Ferrari with a reconfigurable digital instrument display. Other controls were attached to the steering wheel in Formula 1 style, along with an elegant floating wing on which the function buttons for the gearbox were located. The seven-speed gearbox is controlled via longer and more ergonomic paddle shifters.
